Update from Southern Water

Southern Water’s Cleaner Rivers and Seas Task Force is launching a project to reduce storm overflow (CSO) spills into the environment from Thornham Wastewater Treatment Works.

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you’ll already know about this project which is due to start shortly in our area.

Key Dates:

27 May 2025: Investigation phase begins – crews will be cleaning sewers and using CCTV to inspect the wastewater network.
2 June 2025: Property checks begin in Emsworth, moving toward Westbourne and Southbourne.

Expect some traffic management in the area to keep everyone safe. Please do not approach crews while they’re working – they’ll let you know when it’s safe.

Crews will be checking for stormwater connections from roofs, driveways, and gullies into the wastewater system.

Weekly updates will start from 30 May 2025, and a community drop-in session will be held after about 4 months to share findings and discuss solutions.

Please be patient and respectful to the crews. For any questions or concerns, contact Southbourne Parish Council and we’ll put you in touch with Southern Water.
